Apprentice Estimator (Sizewell C) – Civil Works Alliance (CWA)

Ever wondered how massive projects like Sizewell C are planned, priced, and delivered? As an Estimating Apprentice you will learn to develop accurate cost estimates for one of the UK’s most exciting infrastructure projects. This apprenticeship is your first step towards a rewarding career in estimating, construction or project management.

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside experienced Estimators to develop first‑principles estimates for the Civil Works Program, ensuring every pound is accounted for.
  • Review drawings and specifications to create costing sheets for materials, labour, and equipment.
  • Learn how to assess design options and value solutions, ensuring the project is both cost‑effective and high‑quality.
  • Use industry‑leading software such as Candy Estimating Software and RIB Cost X to develop pricing and bills of quantities.
  • Collaborate with project teams and the supply chain to understand methodologies and ensure estimates are realistic and achievable.
  • Support presentations and negotiations, learning how to justify pricing to senior leaders and external stakeholders.
  • Track changes to estimates and budgets as the project evolves, gaining hands‑on experience in project management.

This apprenticeship is your chance to earn while you learn, gaining practical experience and a fully funded qualification in estimating or a related field. By the end of your apprenticeship, you’ll have the skills and confidence to advance in roles such as Estimator, Project Manager, or other positions in the construction industry.
