Overview
Long Term Futures are working in partnership with a well-established Trust to appoint a Catering & Learning Support Assistant within an Alternative Provision setting in Burton on Trent (DE11). This is a unique and varied role combining catering responsibilities with a Learning Support Assistant position, ideal for someone who enjoys working in a hands‑on environment and supporting young people with additional needs.
As a Catering & Learning Support Assistant, you will play a key role in both the smooth running of catering provision and supporting pupils in the classroom. The provision supports pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs, providing a structured and nurturing setting to help them re‑engage with education.
The Role
- Support with the preparation and distribution of breakfast, break‑time snacks, and lunch (minimal food prep required, meals are delivered from another site)
- Ensure catering service runs smoothly and maintain a clean, safe environment
- Work as a Learning Support Assistant, supporting pupils within lessons, particularly practical food sessions
- Support students with engagement, behaviour, and routines throughout the school day
- Work collaboratively with teaching and pastoral staff to support pupil development
- Full time, 37 hours per week – 8:10am to 3:50pm (4:20pm Thursdays)
- You must have a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle with business insurance (45p per mile)
About You
- Experience working with young people or within a school, SEN or Alternative Provision setting (desirable)
- Comfortable working in both catering and classroom environments
- Previous Learning Support Assistant experience is required
- A calm, patient, and adaptable approach
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Willingness to support pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willing to obtain)
