Professional Duties

  • Planning and preparing courses and lessons
  • Teaching, according to educational needs of pupils, including setting and marking of work
  • Assessing, recording and reporting on development, progress and attainment of pupils
  • Promoting the general progress and well‑being of pupils
  • Providing advice and guidance to pupils on educational and social matters and future careers
  • Communicating and consulting with parents of pupils
  • Communicating and cooperating with approved bodies outside the school
  • Participating in meetings arranged for any of the above purposes
  • Providing and contributing to oral and written assessments, reports and references for pupils
  • Participating in staff development schemes and performance reviews
  • Reviewing teaching methods and programmes of work
  • Participating in arrangements for further training and professional development
  • Advising and cooperating with the principal and other teachers on preparation and development of courses of study, teaching materials, methods and assessment
  • Maintaining good order and discipline among pupils and safeguarding their health and safety
  • Participating in meetings relating to curriculum and administration of the school
  • Participating in arrangements for preparing pupils for public examinations
  • Contributing to selection, professional development of other teachers, induction and assessment of probationary teachers
  • Coordinating or managing the work of other teachers
  • Participating in administrative tasks related to duties, including management of support staff and ordering equipment and materials
  • Attending assemblies, registering attendance, supervising pupils
  • Availability for work days and hours as specified in the contract

Essential Criteria

  • Hold a teaching qualification meeting recognition requirements for grant‑aided schools in Northern Ireland.
  • Qualifications obtained at the date of appointment.
  • Minimum of 3 years of demonstrable experience of teaching Key Stage 2 achieving positive outcomes.
  • Experience using effective classroom strategies for all abilities, including SED.
  • Experience using digital media/technology to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland before taking up the post.
  • Knowledge of the Northern Ireland Curriculum.
  • Knowledge of Safeguarding and Child Protection policy and practice.
  • Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Knowledge of a range of teaching strategies to meet pupils’ learning needs.
  • Knowledge of IT systems such as digital classroom tools, tablets and mobile technologies.
  • Knowledge of current assessment methods to inform teaching.
  • Effective teaching and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to provide a supportive, inclusive learning environment.
  • Initiative, problem‑solving and flexibility.
  • Collaboration skills to promote positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, parents and the community.
  • Teamwork and the ability to motivate self and others.
  • Evidence of alignment with the School’s Values and ethos.

Desirable Criteria

  • Minimum of 4 years of demonstrable experience of teaching Key Stage 2 achieving positive outcomes.
  • Experience monitoring pupil progress, performance, target setting and intervention.
  • Experience leading the delivery of Maths as a whole‑school coordinator.
  • Experience assisting or leading the eco‑schools initiative.
  • Experience teaching pupils whose first language is not English.
  • Experience teaching children in withdrawal groups.
  • Experience leading after‑school clubs.
  • Experience promoting the school within the wider community (e.g., PTA).
