Job Description:
This role is within the Professionalism Directorate of the Metropolitan Police. It involves strategic, policy, and delivery workstreams that support the Met’s mission of more trust, less crime and high standards. The adviser will manage key projects, maintain stakeholder relationships, and deliver timely advice to senior leaders.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead projects and programmes that deliver evidence‑based improvements across policy, performance, and professionalism.
- Prepare high‑quality briefings, letters, and updates for senior leaders, governance forums, and strategic meetings.
- Interpret data and evidence to produce clear performance reports and insights for effective decision‑making.
- Act as the Professionalism lead for designated policy or practice areas, ensuring alignment with statutory requirements and internal standards.
- Represent the MPS in consultations with government and external oversight bodies, influencing regulatory and legislative development.
- Build strong relationships with MPS Commands, staff associations, and external partners to promote consistent standards and embed a culture of integrity.
- Identify and implement continuous improvements to systems, processes, and policies, enhancing operational effectiveness and organisational learning.
- Champion ethical conduct, addressing misconduct or poor behaviour proactively and integrating lessons learned into practice.
- Share insights and best practices with operational colleagues to improve frontline service delivery.
- Contribute to directorate‑wide strategy and business planning.
- Provide line management, coaching, and development to team members to ensure high‑quality outputs.
Desirable Experience
- Experience drafting policy or aligning policy with broader strategic objectives, legislation, and regulatory frameworks.
- Knowledge of Policing Professional Standards, referencing and vetting processes, and statutory inquiries.
- Understanding of Police Regulations, the Code of Ethics, and relevant legislation.

- Strong verbal and written communication skills, influencing senior levels and representing externally.
- Excellent organisational skills, managing multiple complex workstreams and reporting progress.
- Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making capability.
