Contract Type: Full-time, long-term (term-time only)

Pay: From £14.25 per hour (approx. 37 hours per week, Monday–Friday)

About the Role

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will play a key role in supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and additional Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). You will work to engage them positively with learning and school life, providing 1:1 and small group support to build emotional regulation, behaviour management, and social development. You will build trusting relationships to encourage resilience and confidence, collaborate closely with teaching staff, therapists, and pastoral teams, and contribute to individual support strategies while remaining calm, consistent, and therapeutic during challenging moments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH and additional needs such as Autism (ASC).
  • Support pupils’ emotional regulation and behaviour management.
  • Facilitate social development and building positive relationships.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff, therapists, and pastoral teams to implement individual support strategies.
  • Help pupils develop confidence, independence, and coping strategies inside and outside the classroom.
  • Respond consistently to challenging behaviour with a calm, therapeutic approach.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEND/SEMH, whether paid, voluntary, or personal.
  • Willingness to obtain or already holding an enhanced DBS.
  • Experience working with Autism (ASC) or challenging behaviour.
  • Team Teach training or other relevant qualifications linked to SEND, education, psychology, youth work, or care.
