Job overview
Full‑time Youth Worker supporting children and young people with short‑term and long‑term health needs (diabetes, epilepsy, ADHD, autism) across Children’s Services, Adult Services and community settings. Provide holistic support, advice and guidance through one‑to‑one sessions, group work, peer support and youth engagement programmes.
Main duties of the job
- Communicate effectively with CYP and families using a compassionate, inclusive approach.
- Provide holistic support to meet individual needs and act as an advocate between agencies and services.
- Assess needs to plan and deliver targeted programmes for health‑related conditions, fitness, smoking, drugs, gangs, violence, relationships and bullying.
- Work in partnership with families, professionals and other organisations to build a strong support network.
- Establish boundaries, challenge inappropriate behaviour and maintain professional limits.
Qualifications / Training
- JNC registered Youth Worker Qualification.
- Ongoing evidence of CPD.
- Health care or psychology related courses.
Previous Experience
- Technical experience and level of responsibility in health, social, education or voluntary settings.
- Experience working with patients with long‑term conditions and emotional or learning difficulties.
- Experience of youth work.
Skills
- Leadership, organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to build and maintain good relationships with children and families.
- Self‑aware, recognise own limitations, use initiative and seek support when needed.
- Non‑judgemental practice and reflective thinking.
Other requirements
- Awareness of child protection and confidentiality.
- Knowledge of Best Practice Tariff for children and young people with diabetes.
- Flexible to meet service needs and willing to travel between sites.
- Basic understanding of how health conditions affect families.
