About the Service – Housing & Homelessness Services
A safe home is the solid base from which you build your life. We support people who are experiencing homelessness, or at risk of becoming homeless, as well as providing specialist accommodation and outreach services for rough sleepers, veterans, survivors of domestic abuse, women and young people.
Accommodation to us doesn’t just mean a roof over your head and shelter from the elements. It needs to be a welcoming and flourishing environment, offering opportunities for all those we support to feel comfortable and develop. You can make a difference and support people on their journey towards a brighter future. At Changing Lives, we offer a home rather than just a shelter.
About the Job
A unique opportunity to join our Multiple Exclusion team, who support people who are sleeping rough, sofa surfing or have nowhere to stay. We carry out early morning outreach to identify those rough sleeping and offer support. We also respond to all citywide alerts of people suspected to be rough sleeping or homeless.
Within this role you will work alongside a team of outreach workers, in and around Newcastle City Centre, interacting with people experiencing rough sleeping and others who either live on the streets or who are part of a street community. You will offer practical support and advice so that they are able to stabilise their situation and make informed decisions.
The role will include long periods outdoors in potentially extreme weather conditions, walking up to ten miles a day. You will support people to access basic needs, housing advice/appointments and support, telephone support and advice to address any physical, social or mental health needs.
