Senior Assistant Technical Officer – Dispensary

We have a vacancy for a Senior Pharmacy Assistant to work in our busy and friendly department based in Winchester, with occasional requirement to work across sites.
This role involves accurately dispensing in‑patient, discharge and out‑patient prescriptions, supporting patient flow in a fast‑paced environment. Prioritisation skills are valued and personal development is encouraged and supported.
Responsibilities
- Accurately dispense prescriptions, including generation of labels, for in‑patient, discharge and out‑patient services.
- Answer telephones promptly and politely, addressing queries and relaying complete and accurate information.
- Recognise self‑limitations and refer to an appropriate person when necessary.
- Dispense controlled drugs.
- Receive out‑patient prescriptions and, where appropriate, hand them to the patient or carer as directed by the Responsible Pharmacist.
- Ensure accurate input of data into the pharmacy JAC computer systems (labelling, returns, etc.).
- Dispense cytotoxic medicines in accordance with COSHH regulations.
- Perform general housekeeping duties within the dispensary, including cleaning equipment and maintaining adequate stock of sundry items.
- Contribute to quality improvement of the pharmacy service through audits, practice changes and reviews of processes.
- Achieve objectives agreed at Individual Performance Review with the line manager.
Qualifications and Experience
- NVQ Level 2 in Pharmaceutical Sciences (or equivalent).
- GCSE Maths and English (Grade C or above).
- Excellent communication skills and flexibility.
- Ability to work accurately under pressure.
- Computer skills essential.
- Physical fitness required for manual handling.
Skills & Knowledge
- Experience working in a pharmacy.
- Hospital pharmacy experience.
- Knowledge of controlled drug dispensing and COSHH regulations.
- Strong prioritisation and organisational skills.
