The Division of Surgery is looking to appoint an enthusiastic, motivated person to support the scheduling team in the delivery of key services and cancer targets within the Surgery Division, initially joining the Urology Team.
The post holder will be responsible for ensuring all protocols are adhered to and for undertaking appropriate action in accordance with RTT rules.
The post holder will plan, prioritise and organise theatre and outpatient treatment lists, taking account of pre‑assessment fitness, equipment availability, clinicians and case mixes. The post holder must adjust to changes and manage workload to departmental policies and procedures. A manager will be available for reference when required.
Each scheduler deals with a large volume of individual theatre and clinic lists, allocating patients within defined time‑scales.
Main duties of the job
- Ensure cancer targets are achieved
- Ensure patients are prevented from breaching targets
- Theatre capacity is utilised and cancellations are kept to a minimum
- Maintain regular communication with the Team Leader, Urology consultants and clinical nursing team
- Ensure all theatres are booked within internal and national targets, including RTT and ‘Treat in Turn’
- Use patient‑focused booking and direct patient booking to increase utilisation and reduce DNA rates
- Maintain an efficient telephone service
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Pay Award
The Agenda for Change Pay Award for 2026/27 is effective from 1st April 2026. For applicants with a start date from 1st April onwards, the salary will be as per the 2026/27 pay award.
