Entrance Building Support Staff

Band 3

Employer: West London NHS Trust; Site: Broadmoor Hospital; Salary: £30,630 – £32,346 per annum, inclusive of allowances.

This job is exempt from the Equalities Act 2010 which supersedes the provisions within the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 by reason of decency or privacy as it may involve physical contact with men/women in circumstances where they might reasonably object to it being carried out by a member of the opposite sex.

The role plays a critical part in safeguarding patients, staff and the public by ensuring security services are delivered in full compliance with Trust policies, local operational procedures (LOPs), emergency procedures (EPs) and contingency plans.

Operational responsibilities extend to the control room, where the post holder monitors security systems, responds to incident and fire alarms, manages access control systems, oversees patient, visitor and vehicle movements, and ensures patients are accounted for at all times.

Accurate record keeping is essential, including logging confiscated items, lost property, incident reports (IR1/SIRs), and producing chronological event logs when required.

The post holder supports visitor management processes, including facilitating social and official visits, maintaining access control databases, supervising child visits in line with risk assessments, and undertaking escort duties where required. Participation in designated search teams, including passive and active dog deployments, forms part of the security function.

The post holder is responsible for screening all social and official visitors, contractors, staff, and vehicles prior to entry, ensuring only authorised individuals gain access to the secure perimeter.

Safeguard that security services are delivered in compliance with Trust policies, local operational procedures and emergency contingency plans, undertake security checks and patrols in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.

Support operations within Security Directorate in accordance with appropriate skills and training. Undertake operational duties within the control room ensuring that site security is maintained through monitoring security systems, responding to incident / fire alarms within the hospital and external hospital buildings, controlling patient / visitors/ vehicle and contractor’s movement within the secure perimeter, and ensure that patients are accounted for at all times.

Represent Entrance building services in accordance with the trust values. Duties include conducting hospital-wide patrols and security checks, testing perimeter systems including PIDs and FST, securing contractor sites, and maintaining accurate key control processes through daily inspections and audit activity.

Person specification

Qualifications

  • Educated to secondary school standards
  • Knowledge/experience of working in a service that’s a support service where security is of a major importance.
  • Customer Service experience

Experience

  • Good communication skills, with the ability to maintain a positive approach under pressure
  • To be able to act with appropriate initiative and sensitivity – with full regard to confidentiality – under a wide variety of circumstances.
  • To be observant and alert, with a thorough approach to work.

Knowledge

  • To have a reasonable knowledge/experience of IT databases such as Word and Excel plus relevant keyboard skills
  • To be able to work on your own or within a team
  • A standard of written and verbal communication skills

  • Good organisational and administrative skills
  • Experience of working and implementing changes in accordance with new regulations, protocols, policies and procedures and the ability to maintain a high level of concentration.

Other Requirements

  • Require to undertake PMVA teamwork training
  • To be able to work night duty and weekends including bank holiday
