Job Summary

BACKGROUND

English Language Experience and Action (ELEA) is a residential EFL summer school experience for students aged 12 – 17 which will take place between July 16th and August 1st 2026, located at the spectacular, prestigious Atlantic College campus, Saint Donats, the birthplace of the International Baccalaureate. We were delighted to be awarded a total of 12 areas of excellence in our last British Council inspection, which places us in the top 7% of UK summer language courses, according to the annual El Gazette rankings, who also awarded us Centre of Excellence status.

Due to increased student enrolments we are very excited to recruit additional English language teachers to work alongside experienced team members for this innovative, programme organised jointly by UWC Atlantic Experience and Peartree Languages. Following on from four incredible face to face courses over consecutive years, we are delighted to be invited back to this amazing campus for another summer. There will be many returning students in 2026, along with plenty of new faces and we would love you to come along and be part of our ELEA journey!

Role Details

This residential role includes mainly classroom teaching but also the supervision and of the cultural activity programme and excursion programme (not sports or action related activities), which will be integrated into the lesson scheme of work. Teachers are also expected to play in active role in the assessment of students, evaluation of course materials and arrival / leaving day activities and duties.

The ELEA programme will place a strong emphasis on developing productive English language skills and activating spoken language in a collaborative, fun and inclusive classroom environment. A key aim of our programme is to increase our students confidence and fluency when communicating in English. A scheme of work with detailed course and lesson outcomes will be be provided to help teachers plan lessons effectively and ensure consistency across the various class groups, however, teachers can also adapt content as applicable for their individual class. Academic support will be available before and during the course as part of regular teacher meetings and there is a strong sense of support and team spirit on the programme.

Lessons are topic-based, centred on the UN Sustainable Development Goals and will develop 21st Century skills, such as creativity, initiative and critical thinking. All teachers, must be qualified to the standards of the British Council for the teaching of English in the UK (see qualifications), and will be expected to use a range of classroom methodologies that place the student at the centre of the learning experience and inspire students to reach their full potential, incorporating ICT, audio-visual and real-world resources into the classroom materials also differentiating and adapting course guidelines and content appropriately to the interests of the teaching group.

Person Description

The ELEA EFL tutors will work alongside the pastoral and activity team at UWC Atlantic Experience to deliver an excellent, safe, highly enjoyable educational experience for all course participants. Safeguarding, students well-being, student satisfaction and the overall smooth running of the programme must be a priority at all times. Enthusiasm, creativity, a strong sense of responsibility, maturity, positive energy, the ability to work as a member of a wider team along with general willingness to be involved in the programme as a whole is a must. You should be able to react positively to feedback and possess excellent communication skills. We will consider all work and life experience equally important to length of EFL teaching experience when assessing applications. It must be understood that as a member of a Residential team you are expected to act at all times appropriately to any situation, at any time, where you are the closest person to the incident.

KEY DETAILS

A maximum of three pre-course training hours – mainly online OR face to face if already in the south Wales area.Arrival evening 15/07/26 or the morning (before 9:00am) of 16/07/262 full days of inductio, training and professional development sessions (all paid) 16/07/26 + 17/07/26Course dates: 18/07 – 01/08/26 (inclusive)

30 teaching hours over a 14 day period any time, normally between 9am and 5pm12 hours over a 14 day period any time lesson preparation / administration / meetings / training14 off-site cultural excursion leading hours over a 14 day period, normally between 9am and 7pm6 – 10 on-site cultural social programme hours over a 14 day period, normally between 6pm and 10pm

Hours are approximate but should not exceed 44 hours per week.

Please note that you may be required to perform other supervision duties from time to time in order to ensure the smooth running of the course, these could be academic in nature or form part of the social programme. You will be expected to carry out these duties responsibly and actively. Additional duties will NOT include overnight supervision of students or the overnight camp. There is no obligation to live on campus for the duration of the course provided you can fulfil all duties required as per the timetable.

1.5 days off over a 14 day period, which could be half or full days, depending on the final timetable.

Qualifications

Applicants must be a minimum of TEFLI qualified according to the requirements set by the British Council for the Teaching and Learning of English in the UK (CELTA, Cert. TESOL, Recognised TEFL qualification) and ideally hold a minimum of two years demonstrable experience working with young adults or young learners (under 18), although other experience may be considered. Depending on other relevant work experience, this role may be suitable for more newly qualified tutors who would be supported by our experienced academic team. Final remuneration will depend on experience level.

Salary and Benefits

EFL Tutor: Starting at £1,147 with alternative remuneration packages avaiable – depending on experience – per 14 day course, plus holiday payThe above remuneration is inclusive of other pre-course meetings (online) prior to course start, maximum three hours.Remuneration for two initial induction days: £140 total, plus holiday pay.NO deduction is made for accommodation / meals.

Staff accommodation is a private room in a shared staff house on site, with access to own cooking facilities. All meals are included (3 hot meals per day) while the course is running along with snacks and drinks provided in the staff house. It is possible to remain at the College in accommodation on days off / mid-point non-course days.

Staff can use the wide range of facilities at the campus during free time as per availability including; a full gym, tidal beach, tennis courts and enjoy the grounds and surroundings which offer spectacular views and opportunities for coastal path walking / running.
