Essential Criteria
- Hold a teaching qualification recognised for teaching in grant‑aided schools in Northern Ireland.
- Minimum of 6 months of paid experience teaching pupils diagnosed with Severe Learning Difficulties in an SLD school setting.
- Demonstrable experience teaching children and young people diagnosed with ASD and/or Sensory Processing Disorder.
- Demonstrable experience of working with professionals to meet the needs of children and young people with Special Educational Needs.
- Demonstrable experience with specialist equipment, facilities or skills for SED pupils.
- Register with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before taking up post.
- Pre‑employment check completed.
Additional Essential Criteria (Interview Stage)
- Knowledge of the Northern Ireland Curriculum.
- Knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding and Child Protection policy/practice.
- Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and its implications.
- Working knowledge of teaching strategies to meet learning needs of pupils with SED.
- Knowledge and approaches to support children with ASD.
- Knowledge of current assessment methods for pupils with SED.
- Knowledge of approaches to promoting positive behaviour for learning (e.g. Trauma‑Informed Practice).
- Knowledge of Play‑Based Learning in the SLD setting.

Desirable Criteria
- Experience using language programmes (e.g. Makaton, PECS, Pixon).
- Experience with a range of classroom approaches to support and challenge pupils with SLD.
- Experience writing Personal Learning Plans.
- Experience or training in Trauma‑Informed Practice.
- Experience delivering play‑based learning.
Professional Duties
- Planning and preparing courses and lessons.
- Teaching, including setting and marking work for pupils.
- Assessing, recording and reporting students’ development, progress and attainment.
- Promoting the progress and well‑being of pupils.
- Providing advice and guidance to pupils on educational and social matters.
- Recording and reporting the personal and social needs of pupils.
- Communicating and consulting with parents.
- Co‑operating with external bodies approved by the authority and Governors.
- Participating in relevant meetings.
- Contributing to oral and written assessments, reports and references for pupils.
- Participating in staff development and performance review schemes.
- Reviewing teaching methods and programmes regularly.
- Participating in professional development arrangements.
- Advising and cooperating with the Principal and other teachers on curriculum preparation.
- Maintaining discipline and safeguarding pupils’ health and safety.
- Participating in curriculum and pastoral meetings.
- Participating in arrangements for public examinations and assessment.
- Contributing to the selection, induction and assessment of probationary teachers.
- Co‑ordinating or managing work of other teachers.
- Managing administrative tasks related to duties.
- Attending assemblies and registering attendance.
- Ensuring availability for required teaching days and hours.
- Providing staffing cover where needed, under specified conditions.
- Promoting good relations, equality of opportunity and compliance with equality legislation at all times.
