Overview

GSL are seeking enthusiastic Teaching Assistants to support students in a secondary school setting with identified learning needs, including SEN (Special Educational Needs) and SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health). This role is based in an Ofsted-rated Outstanding school and involves supporting students on a 1:1 and small group basis across Key Stages 3 and 4.

You will work alongside experienced teachers and support staff to help students access the curriculum, develop confidence, and achieve their full academic and personal potential.

Opportunities

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with additional learning needs
  • Support students in accessing a range of secondary subjects (e.g. English, Maths, Science)
  • Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and EHCP targets
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff
  • Promote positive behaviour, engagement, and emotional regulation
  • Monitor and track student progress, providing feedback to staff
  • Support students during lessons, transitions, and unstructured times where required
  • Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment

Qualifications and Skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with secondary-aged students
  • Patience, resilience, and adaptability
  • A genuine interest in supporting young people with SEN/SEMH needs
  • Proactive approach and willingness to work as part of a team
  • Previous experience in a school or similar setting is desirable but not essential

Position Details

Location: Colchester

Salary Scale: £92.59 – £120 per day

Contract Type: Full-time
