Job Overview

HMP Leicester Future Campaign recruits new prison officers for a 23‑month deployment at HMP Wayland before moving permanently to HMP Leicester. The scheme guarantees a permanent role at HMP Leicester while providing a structured career pathway and valuable experience.

What’s on offer?

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a peacekeeper, counsellor, or teacher as required, working directly with prisoners in a dynamic environment.
  • Maintain the safety and security of the facility, ensuring the well‑being of staff and the public.
  • Support prisoners with behavioural, emotional, and educational needs as part of the regime.

Eligibility & Requirements

  • Minimum 18 years of age at commencement of employment.
  • Meet Civil Service nationality requirements.
  • Pass a medical and fitness assessment and meet the required eyesight and hearing standards.
  • Tattoos are permitted if not offensive, discriminatory, violent or intimidating; facial tattoos are generally not acceptable unless for cultural, religious or medical reasons.

Pay

Starting salary: £33,746 at HMP Wayland. After 23 months, pay will adjust to match the prevailing rate at the new prison. Training lasts 37 hours per week; post‑training, officers may choose 37, 39 or 41 hours per week, with annual salary reflecting the weekly hours.
