Job summary

An exciting opportunity for an Ambulance Support Team Member based at Goodwood Ambulance Station Leicester. The post holder will carry out ambulance cleaning and preparation duties to set infection control standards and ensure that vehicles are ready to respond to emergencies. The post holder will also be required to drive ambulances and other Trust vehicles between bases as part of their normal duties.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be deep cleaning ambulances on a 42‑day cycle.

The successful applicant needs to have 2 GCSE’s (Grade C or above) or equivalent, or evidence that shows an ability to apply knowledge in a structured way. A full driving licence (including Category C1 is essential) with no more than 3 points for speeding is required.

This position requires the ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally with good hand‑eye coordination, work under pressure and meet deadlines. The successful candidate will have to work as part of a team, but also on own initiative. Relevant previous work experience would be an advantage.

We are looking for a self‑motivated individual who will help us excel in the service and care given to patients.

About us

The post holder will be working in a close team of 5 who are led by a Team Leader who organizes the schedule. The team has a strong work ethic and works hard to ensure the monthly IPC compliance is met.

Job responsibilities

The team sometimes work in pairs and sometimes on their own, visiting ambulance stations in the Leicestershire division to catch the vehicles before they go into use on the front line. The main tasks are to empty the ambulance and deep clean all cupboards, clean fixtures and fittings and clean main medical equipment to IPC requirements. It is a challenging and important role.

Person Specification – Qualifications (Essential)

  • 2 GCSEs (of grade C or above) or equivalent – or evidence which shows an ability to apply knowledge in a structured way
  • Full clean driving licence (including Category C1 and no more than a 3 point penalty for speeding)

  • Health and Safety at Work First Aid qualification

Experience (Desirable)

  • Relevant previous work experience
  • Previous experience working with emergency ambulances
  • Worked within the NHS

Knowledge and Skills (Essential)

  • Demonstrates attention to detail and ability to make clear, accurate and appropriate written records
  • Demonstrates ability to complete forms

Knowledge and Skills (Desirable)

  • I.T. skills – some keyboard skills and familiarisation with Windows would be desirable
  • Possess knowledge of the work of an ambulance service
