JOB DESCRIPTION

SEN TA1 Teaching Assistant (SCP 3) + SEN allowance. This is a fixed term position to support a named child with an EHCP.

Conditions of Service

  • NJC for Local Government Services
  • Monday to Friday Mornings only (HOURS TO BE AGREED)
  • TERM-TIME ONLY 39 weeks per academic year (195 days)

JOB PURPOSE

To support the classroom teacher with their responsibility for the personal, social and emotional wellbeing of a named pupil. To work under the guidance of teaching/senior staff, to implement educational work programmes for an individual pupil in our school.

OUTLINE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

  • Supervise the activities of individuals or groups of children to ensure their safety and facilitate their physical and emotional development.
  • Assist with the implementation of EHCP targets for a specific named pupil.
  • Establish positive working relationships with the pupil and within the school as a whole, acting as a role model and setting high expectations.
  • Promote inclusion for the pupil within day-to-day school life.
  • Provide one-to-one support for a named pupil, recognising and responding to their individual needs.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

No specific qualification required. The ability to support pupils and staff and communicate with parents through fluent and accurately spoken English. Staff will be expected to have Maths and English GCSE or equivalent.

Classroom teacher/designated supervisor.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

Under the direction and supervision of the Class Teacher

SUPPORT FOR THE PUPIL

  • Supervise the activities of the child to ensure his safety and facilitate his physical and emotional development.
  • Assist with the implementation of EHCP targets for a specific named pupil.
  • Undertake those activities necessary to meet the physical and emotional needs of the child.
  • To monitor any of the child’s problems, progress and achievements and report these to designated supervisor as appropriate.
  • Actively engage in the pre-determined educational activities and work programmes at a basic level and assist in personal and individual development of the child.
  • Ensure that the pupil is able to safely use equipment and materials provided.
  • Assist with the provision of general care and welfare to the pupil and being mindful of the need to maintain a safe environment at all times.

SUPPORT FOR THE SCHOOL

  • Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to safeguarding, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection (under GDPR regulations), reporting all concerns to an appropriate person. Undertake all identified training as necessary.
  • Help to ensure the pupil has equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.
  • Contribute to the overall Christian ethos/work/aims of the school.
  • Adhere to and maintain school routines and codes of conduct.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings when necessary.
  • Participate in training and other learning activities as required.
