Job Description

Under general supervision of the manager of manufacturing operations, a metal finisher and straightener prepares, repairs and refines metal parts by removing defects, smoothing surfaces and correcting structural warping to meet specifications. You will be using hand and powered tools (grinders & sanders) and straightening equipment (presses, hammers & dollies) to ensure high‑quality, smooth and precise parts.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Metal finishing: grind, sand, clean and polish metal parts to remove scratches, gates and surface defects using grinders, sanders, color‑blasting & wheelabrating equipment.
  • Straightening: moving parts slightly to remove warping, bends or twists in metal parts by using hammers, presses, heat and compression to restore proper alignment.
  • Heat‑treat straightening: operating ovens to heat metal parts to specific temperatures; utilizing compression press to remove distortion from heated parts.
  • Quality inspection: using precision tools such as Go No‑Go gauges, calibers, straight‑edges, micrometers and other equipment to inspect parts against blueprints and/or specifications, ensuring accurate dimensions.
  • Documentation: utilizing our ERP system (PLEX) to document accurate logs and heat‑treat times, temperatures, results and move tags as appropriate.
  • Safety compliance: follow strict safety protocols, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).

Qualifications and Skills

  • Previous experience with manufacturing and/or heat‑treating with knowledge of metallurgy preferred.
  • High school or GED required.
  • Experience in manufacturing small parts, completing the following process: bench assembly, machining, deburring, cleaning, grit blasting and parts identification.
  • Ability to use common measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, gauges (pin, thread, indicator, height), optical comparators, etc.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with basic mathematics and computer applications.
  • Ability to work in high‑temperature environments.

Reporting Relationship

  • Reports to Manager of Manufacturing Operations.
