VANRATH are recruiting for a CAD Technician to work for a market leading employer, working alongside a large public sector body.

Remuneration: £30,000 – £35,000 per annum + package

Role Overview

Play a key role in transforming a unique and complex government estate into a smarter, safer and more sustainable environment. As a CAD Technician, you’ll help build the digital foundation of the estate; maintaining accurate drawings, spatial information, asset records, BIM data and supporting the development of Digital Twins. Turn building data into meaningful insights that drive better decisions, investment planning and long‑term transformation. This is a hands‑on, tech‑focused role where detail, curiosity and collaboration directly shape the future of the estate.

This role requires working closely with the client’s Estates Services team and supporting colleagues across Asset Management, Projects, Maintenance and Commercial functions. The estate is extensive and complex, covering 68 sites over approximately 339,000 sqm of built space and 80+ telecommunications sites, held predominantly on a freehold basis. Many legacy drawings and survey reports require validation and updates to align with current standards. Workloads can increase rapidly in response to urgent client requests, so the ability to stay organised, work calmly under pressure and balance competing priorities is essential. Accuracy and attention to detail are critical, as drawings, asset data and space information must be reliable to ensure compliance and support lifecycle and statutory planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Keep estate drawings accurate and up to date; create, amend and manage 2D CAD plans in line with standards
  • Support the development and maintenance of 3D BIM models and Digital Twins
  • Work with point clouds, scanned surveys and structured BIM data to build accurate digital representations of the estate
  • Maintain and upload drawings and asset data into the system, ensuring the asset register and space coding remain reliable
  • Integrate survey outputs, including condition, spatial, functional suitability and environmental data, into digital systems
  • Collect, verify and manage asset data using Excel and site surveys, supporting Asset Managers with accurate records
  • Collaborate with colleagues across Asset Management, Projects, Maintenance and Commercial teams to provide CAD and data support
  • Support reporting and client engagement by preparing visuals, presentations and analysis
  • Take part in regular site visits (driving required) to validate building layouts and asset information
  • Contribute to compliance, lifecycle planning and wider estate transformation initiatives
  • Share best practice and grow your skills through the Asset Management community of practice

Ideal Background

  • A recognised qualification in AutoCAD (ideally within a built environment subject)
  • Confidence working with complex, multi‑layered CAD drawings
  • Strong knowledge of CAD standards and quality assurance
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, with the ability to handle and analyse large datasets
  • Knowledge of BIM processes and standards (ideally Level 2)
  • A sharp eye for detail and a quality‑driven, methodical approach
  • Good organisational and planning skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team
  • Clear communication skills to build positive working relationships with colleagues, contractors, consultants and clients
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly for site visits
  • AutoCAD experience gained in estates, facilities or construction environments
  • Experience with systems for drawings and asset data management
  • Understanding of facilities management, building assets and compliance requirements
  • Familiarity with lifecycle planning and reporting for large estates
  • Comfortable using digital tools and open to learning new systems quickly
