Slow Train Piano Lab offers a unique approach to learning piano, focusing on chord-based techniques to help students play confidently and creatively without needing to read sheet music or face unnecessary pressure. Lessons are tailored to individual goals, from beginners to advanced players, emphasizing playing the music students love, including genres like pop, rock, gospel, and more. Students learn to play from chord symbols, understand progressions, explore improvisation, and even accompany other musicians or bands. With hands-on experiences using a variety of instruments, from acoustic and electric pianos to synthesizers and organs, students gain practical, versatile music skills.

Role Description

This is a remote, contract role for a Piano Teacher specializing in “Playing by Chords.” The role involves teaching students to play music they love using chord-based methods, coaching them in areas such as improvisation, rhythm, accompaniment, and playing by ear. The teacher will provide personalized lessons tailored to the goals and abilities of each student, with a focus on fostering creativity and confidence in their playing style.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Piano Playing and Piano Education
  • Strong foundation in Music Theory and Music Education
  • Experience teaching or working with students at various skill levels
  • Understanding of chord-based piano techniques and improvisation
  • Ability to teach diverse musical styles, such as pop, rock, gospel, and worship music
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for remote teaching
  • Capacity to adapt lessons to individual learning goals
  • Prior experience with group music dynamics or band accompaniment is a plus
  • Access to a suitable home setup for remote teaching, including reliable internet and necessary equipment
