Senior Healthcare Assistant

Hours: 37.5 per week; flexible working considered for all MKUH roles.
To work in this role you must hold an NHS care certificate. If you do not have one you will start at band 2 and receive support within six months to achieve the certificate and then move to band 3.
We are looking for a compassionate and proactive Healthcare Assistant to join our Surgical SDEC team. This busy, patient‑focused environment provides rapid assessment and treatment for surgical patients and supports high quality care and timely discharge.
Main duties of the job
- Under the supervision of registered staff, undertake delegated clinical care duties.
- Assist the nursing team and support Healthcare Assistants in delivering safe, effective care to patients.
- Provide personal care duties as needed (bathing, toileting, dressing, feeding) while maintaining privacy and dignity.
- Assess patient condition through clinical observations, identify agitation or distress and report concerns in accordance with the escalation process.
- Support patients with wound care, mobility, hydration and comfort.
- Maintain infection prevention and control and safe working practices.
Person Specification
Qualifications and knowledge
- GCSE level or functional skills in Maths & English or equivalent.
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent experience.
- CARE Certificate.
- Knowledge of personal care and activities of daily living.
- Aware of infection prevention & control importance.
- Understanding of safe working practices.
- Understanding of the role of a Healthcare Assistant.
- Studying Nursing or Midwifery or similar at university.
- Awareness of NHS policies.
- Assessors training/certificate.
Experience
- Experience working in a care setting.
- Experience of working in a team.
- Previous NHS experience.
- Experience in supporting junior staff.
Skills
- Commitment to high standards of care.

- Caring in a professional manner towards patients and their relatives.
- Good time management.
- Ability to induct, support, assess, and develop junior members of staff.
