Role Overview

Calm Futures is seeking an experienced and passionate Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Manager to lead, develop and embed best-practice PBS approaches across our growing group of specialist services.

This senior, group-wide role provides both strategic and operational leadership in behaviour support, ensuring the people we support receive person-centred, proactive and evidence-based interventions that improve quality of life, increase independence and reduce restrictive practices.

The PBS Manager will work across residential care, supported living and outreach services, supporting teams to deliver consistent, high-quality PBS in line with regulatory expectations and national best practice.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Lead and oversee the development and delivery of Calm Futures’ PBS strategy, ensuring consistency and quality across the Group.
  • Provide expert guidance to senior leaders on behaviour support, complex risk and restrictive practice reduction.
  • Ensure Calm Futures remains aligned with CQC expectations, STOMP principles, and recognised best-practice guidance.
  • Contribute to service development, quality improvement and wider organisational strategy.

Practice & Quality Assurance

  • Complete and oversee functional and behavioural assessments and the development of high-quality PBS plans.
  • Support services to proactively reduce incidents, behaviours of concern and restrictive practices.
  • Lead on restraint reduction initiatives, aligned to national standards (e.g. RRN).
  • Oversee PBS governance frameworks, including audit, data analysis and reporting to support continuous improvement.
  • Provide specialist input into post-incident reviews and debriefs, promoting organisational learning and prevention.

Leadership & Workforce Development

  • Provide leadership, supervision and performance management to PBS Practice Leaders and wider PBS resources.
  • Coach, mentor and train managers and frontline teams in PBS principles and best practice.
  • Develop and lead the organisation’s PBS Champions programme, building internal capability and practice leadership.
  • Promote a strong culture of dignity, respect, inclusion and person-centred support throughout the organisation.
  • Work closely with operational managers, families, professionals and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Support transitions, new placements and complex referrals, advising on behavioural support needs and models.
  • Represent Calm Futures at professional forums and contribute to sector-wide best practice.

Person Specification

  • Relevant professional qualification in Psychology, Positive Behaviour Support, Behaviour Analysis, Learning Disability Nursing, Occupational Therapy, or a related field.
  • Formal PBS training with demonstrable experience leading and embedding PBS practice.
  • Experience supporting adults with learning disabilities, autism and complex needs.
  • Strong knowledge of functional assessment, behaviour support planning and restrictive practice reduction.
  • Experience training, coaching and developing staff teams.
  • Excellent communication, leadership and report-writing skills.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across services.
  • BILD or PBS Academy aligned training.
  • Experience working within multi-site or group social care organisations.
  • Strong knowledge of CQC regulations and social care governance.
  • Experience supporting forensic, trauma-informed or highly complex presentations.
