Responsibilities
- Deliver tailored instruction: plan and deliver engaging and differentiated lessons across a range of subjects, adapting teaching strategies and materials to meet the diverse learning needs and abilities of students with SEN, including autism, dyslexia, ADHD, and other learning challenges.
- Individualised support: provide one‑on‑one and small group support to students, implementing specialised interventions and accommodations outlined in their Individual Education Plans (IEPs) or Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Assessment and progress monitoring: conduct regular assessments to track students’ progress and inform instructional planning, and collaborate with other professionals such as SENCOs and educational psychologists to evaluate needs and adjust support strategies.
- Behaviour management: foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment by implementing effective behaviour management strategies and providing social‑emotional support to students with SEN.
- Collaboration and communication: work collaboratively with colleagues, parents/carers, and external agencies to ensure a holistic approach to supporting students’ academic, social, and emotional development; attend and contribute to SEN review meetings and other relevant forums.
Qualifications
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with experience teaching students with SEN, preferably in a school or educational setting.
- Specialised training or qualifications in SEN education, such as a Postgraduate Certificate in SEN or equivalent, are highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of different learning needs and the ability to differentiate instruction and adapt teaching strategies to meet individual students’ requirements.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, parents/carers, and external stakeholders.
- Patience, empathy, resilience, and a genuine passion for supporting the holistic development of students with SEN.
