Manchester Islamic Grammar School for Girls is an independent all-girls 11–16secondary school located in the Fielden Campus, West Didsbury, Manchester, M20 2PQ.West Didsbury is an affluent suburb of South Manchester, offering a vibrant area thatbalances a cosmopolitan yet village atmosphere. Our school is perfectly situated witheasy access to bus and tram routes to Manchester city centre.We are a relatively small school of approximately 250 students. Alongside our partnerschools, KD Grammar School for Boys and Manchester Muslim Preparatory School, weform part of the highly successful Manchester Islamic Educational Trust. We are proud tohave been rated Outstanding in our last three Ofsted inspections.

We are seeking a reliable, hardworking, and dedicated caretaker to join our schoolteam. This important role will ensure that our school environment is safe, clean, and well-maintained, providing the ideal setting for students and staff to thrive. We are looking forsomeone with excellent practical skills, a proactive attitude, and a commitment tosupporting the smooth day-to-day running of our school. Key Responsibilities:• Carry out general maintenance tasks around the school and grounds, includingminor repairs and DIY tasks.• Assist with contractors during school holidays, (typically in the Easter andSummer holiday) ensuring access to the school and supporting maintenanceworks.• Be available during the Easter and summer holiday periods as required by theHeadteacher, typically from 9.00am – 5.00pm, with flexibility depending on thework being completed.• Provide support for school events, meetings, and occasionally work evenings orweekends as required.• Ensure the security of the school site, acting as a ‘Key Holder’ and responding tocall-outs when necessary (e.g., alarm triggers).• Take the initiative to carry out practical DIY jobs and effectively use maintenanceequipment and machinery to ensure the smooth running of the school.• Carry out emergency cleaning duties, such as addressing spillages or accidentspromptly.• Move furniture and other equipment for special events or meetings.• Maintain the school grounds, including seasonal gardening, trimming, andpruning, and clearing rubbish, leaves, and snow/ice to ensure safety andaccessibility, especially for fire exits and escape routes.• Keep accurate records of cleaning supplies and ensure orders are placed whenstocks are low.• Receipt and distribute ordered goods, materials, and equipment, ensuring thatitems are delivered and distributed appropriately to staff.Skills and Experience:• Ability to work independently and cooperatively with others.• Practical DIY experience and ability to operate maintenance equipment andmachinery effectively.• Flexible ‘can do’ attitude, with the ability to adapt to changing needs andresponsibilities.• A driver’s license and vehicle are essential for the role.• Previous experience as a caretaker, builder, or site manager is highly desirable.• A pleasant and approachable manner, with good communication skills.Additional Benefits:• We follow the Manchester City Council calendar for term dates and schoolclosures.• We value our staff and their commitment to our ethos, offering additional paidleave for the following periods (provided they do not fall within the scheduledmain school holidays):➢ The last five working days of Ramadhan➢ Two days at Eid – al – Fitr➢ One day for the Day of Arafat➢ Two days at Eid – ul – Adha• Five days’ paid leave is available on a rota basis for staff who travel for Hajj forthe first time.
