National PBS Lead Practitioner

Remote with travel covering: Manchester, Kirkless, Merseyside, Notts, Derby, Suffolk & London.

You will possess the knowledge and experience to train, motivate and coach teams to successfully embed and maintain PBS practice within our current services; including those under the Transforming Care agenda. You will conduct functional assessments and lead on the development, implementation and evaluation of Positive Behaviour Support Plans that enhance the quality of people’s lives. You will be committed to making PBS accessible to everyone and increasing team competence. You will deliver Positive Behaviour Support training and lead workshops and debrief.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a caseload of individuals or services, providing Positive Behaviour Support.
  • Shape Positive Behaviour Support in services through coaching and mentoring teams to implement individual Behaviour Support Plans.
  • Supporting services to create and review behaviour risk assessments where appropriate.
  • Integrate other evidence-based interventions and approaches to meet the individual’s needs – this may include coordinating with other clinical specialists (such as psychology, psychiatry, speech and language).
  • Undertake functional assessments using a range of tools; support stakeholder participation and provide interpretation in a way that is easily understood and meaningful to the person and their circle of support.
  • Work alongside teams to develop intervention plans; monitor and evaluate their effectiveness.
  • Provide advice and guidance to managers, practitioners and PBS coaches.
  • Keep up-to-date with best practice through literature reviews, attendance at conferences and relevant forums.
  • Lead on development, implementation and monitoring of restrictive practice reduction plan.
  • Attend weekly PBS referrals meetings, provide support based on incoming referrals and update on active referrals.
  • Identify safeguarding concerns and elevate through appropriate channel.

Training Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of bespoke workshops for staff teams when a PBS related need is identified.
  • Support the assessment and transition of new referrals; including the development of, and implementation of, their Positive Behaviour Support plans and team training.

Qualifications

  • To hold a formal qualification relating to PBS (such as, BTEC Diploma in PBS or BSc in Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Applied Behaviour Analysis, Positive Behaviour Support).
  • Extensive experience of working with people with Learning Disabilities and/or Autism who display behaviours of concern.
  • Experience of carrying out behaviour assessments within a Positive Behaviour Support framework.
  • Experience of reducing the use of restrictive practices; including restrictive interventions.
  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of core components and values underpinning PBS.
  • Knowledge of other complementary evidence-based approaches such as Active Support, Person-Centred Planning and Total Communication.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with internal and external agencies across a variety of disciplines.
  • Ability to provide prompt, clear and relevant advice.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to travel nationally when required.
  • Full and valid UK driving licence.
  • Hold certification as a UKBA Cert or UKiBA or working towards.
  • Experience of delivering training, workshops and/or teaching adult learners.
  • Experience of facilitating practice and/or coaching.
  • Experience of leading individual/team de-briefs.
