CCTV Operator

Company: Southwark Council
Apply for the CCTV Operator
Location: London
Job Description:

What You’ll Be Doing

Join us as a CCTV Operator and be at the centre of a proactive, partnership‑led approach to community safety. In this role, you’ll work closely with internal teams and external agencies to monitor and respond to incidents ranging from large‑scale events to fly‑tipping and illegal street trading.

Using advanced surveillance systems, you’ll identify hotspot areas and provide real‑time intelligence to the Police, Safer Neighbourhood Teams, the Council’s uniformed patrol services, Anti‑Social Behaviour teams, and other stakeholders, helping to keep communities safe.

You will act as a key CCTV liaison between control room operators and partner agencies, ensuring effective communication and coordination. This includes developing targeted briefings to support tasking activity, as well as producing outcome‑focused reports for partnership meetings. Your insight and analysis will directly inform decision‑making, shaping future deployment of resources and approaches to tackling crime and anti‑social behaviour.

You’ll also play a key role in enforcement by capturing and compiling high‑quality evidential packages to support Trading Standards, Environmental Enforcement, and partner agencies.

Representing the CCTV service at community safety meetings, you’ll highlight positive outcomes and demonstrate the impact of surveillance in reducing crime and anti‑social behaviour.

This is a fast‑paced, rewarding role where your actions make a visible difference every day helping to make Southwark a safer and more attractive place for all.

What We’re Looking For

You should be familiar with and adhere to the principles of the GDPR, Human Rights Act, RIPA, Freedom of Information Act and knowledge of Common Laws that govern the use of public sector CCTV.

You will have excellent communication skills and be comfortable using radio communications equipment.

Due to the nature of the post candidates are not entitled to withhold information regarding convictions by virtue of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act, 1974 (Exceptions) Order, 1975 as amended, pursuant to Section 4 of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

Successful candidates also require security clearance from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS, formerly CRB) and a Counter Terrorism Check (CTC) police check; this will be carried out at the provisional offer stage. Clearance will need to be gained prior to contract issue. Future loss of this clearance will lead to removal from the CCTV control room pending appeal, and will lead to loss of the position if clearance is not reinstated.

We hope to see you make an application and all the best.
