Ophthalmic Technician

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Ophthalmology outpatients service at Denmark Hill, King’s College Hospital. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual who enjoys working with people and has an interest in working in an ophthalmic care setting.

This role requires excellent people skills, communication skills, and strict attention to detail to provide imaging of the highest quality. This rewarding position will develop and evolve with our collaborative team working approach to ensure we meet the advancing demand of patients with ocular conditions.

Previous experience of working with patients in an eye care setting would be beneficial.

Post holder must be able to work across a 7 day week, including bank holidays.

Main duties of the job

  • Demonstrating caring, compassionate, professional behaviour fostering trust and confidence in the service for people in your care.
  • Maintaining effective communication with patients, relatives, and members of the multidisciplinary network of professionals regarding all aspects of care.
  • Visual acuity assessment.
  • Visual field assessment.
  • Measurement of spectacles using the automated focimeter.
  • Measurement of intraocular pressure using the Reichert Ocular Response Analyser and iCARE.
  • Participation in the virtual technician‑led clinic.
  • Use of electronic patient record management system.
  • Assistance in intravitreal injections and cross‑linking services.
  • Undertake administrative tasks associated with the role, following departmental guidelines and procedures.
  • Contribution to the efficient running of all clinics, including opening and closing of clinic settings.
  • Successful completion of the care certificate within 3 months of start date.
  • Ensuring safe use and maintenance of all equipment.
  • Commitment to further training as required.
  • Assistance in training new staff when necessary.
  • Participation in team huddles and meetings.
  • Ensuring compliance with policies and procedures of the Trust.

Person Specification

  • Experience working in an ophthalmic setting supporting patients and the multidisciplinary team with a range of ophthalmic technical skills.
  • Understanding of ocular digital imaging equipment and images.
  • Care certificate.
  • Enhanced ophthalmic imaging techniques (OVS) qualification.

£31,554 to £33,270 a year pro rata including HCA.
