Technician – Genetic Control of Tephritid Pests

University of East Anglia is inviting applications for the post of Technician to assist in the delivery of a collaborative research project programme, “Completing the genetic toolkit for the control of global Tephritid pests”. The role involves working with researchers at UEA and Imperial College to develop innovative genetic control strategies targeting the Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratinis capitata). The position is part‑time (0.2 FTE/7.25 hours per week), available from 2 February 2026 on a fixed‑term basis for up to 24 months.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Senior Research Associate with deployment of gene manipulations, gene editing, omics technologies and behavioural analyses to build and evaluate new population suppressive gene drives for fruit fly pests.
  • Maintain and prepare fly media and molecular biology reagents, and maintain the fruit fly facility.

Qualifications

  • Experience with insects or invertebrates and with gene manipulations/editing or omics.

Salary

Base pay: £26,707 per annum (pro rata), with an annual increment up to £30,378 per annum (pro rata).
