Position Details
College of Social Sciences. Location: University of Birmingham, Edgbaston, Birmingham, UK. Full‑time starting salary £20,782 per annum rising to £25,977 after 12 months. Apprentice Grade 3. Fixed‑term contract for 15 months. Apprenticeship Standard: Facilities Services Operative Level 2. Training Provider: Mercury Training. Closing Date: 31 May 2026.
Responsibilities
- Building condition inspections and safety checks.
- Assist with room moves, furniture relocations and signage installation.
- Administer health and safety documentation.
- Handle staff, student and visitor queries.
- Assign ID‑card access.
- Report repairs to the central estates team and track maintenance requests.
- Coordinate key management processes, set up spreadsheet and maintain key log.
- Coordinate small office moves and arrange telephone and PC relocation.
- Maintain office tidiness and clear delivered items promptly.
- Participate in safety and environmental activities.
- Communicate and collaborate with internal and external colleagues and services.
- Organise internal meeting‑room bookings.
- Assist with meeting‑space preparation.
- Provide general administrative support.
- Print, scan, collate and laminate documents as required.
- Order and distribute stationery/keys and maintain office stock levels.
- Track small works, projects and information gathering.
- Assist with ad‑hoc projects such as compiling FAQ notes for event organisers.
- Support the administration and communication of small maintenance and building projects.
Qualifications and Experience
- GCSE grade 4 or above in Maths and English.
- Ability to communicate appropriately on all levels, verbally and in writing.
- Competent in digital skills using Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Confident and inquisitive, eager to learn and develop within the role.
- Experience and/or understanding of the expectations of working in a professional office environment.
