Role Overview
We are looking for a qualified, Specialist Teacher of the Deaf to join the Deaf / Hearing Inclusion Team, starting September 2026 or January 2027.
Work Hours
26 hours per week (0.8 FTE). Flexible days and hours.
Role Description
This is a peripatetic post with a caseload of Deaf children and young people (0‑25) across multiple settings within Staffordshire (currently Newcastle‑under‑Lyme/Staffordshire Moorlands). You will support families, schools and specialists in providing inclusive education.
Main Responsibilities
- Support Deaf children and young people and their families in homes, mainstream settings, and specialist settings across the age range 0‑25.
- Support the educational development and inclusion of the children referred to the team.
- Monitor, deliver interventions, and advise on an allocated caseload. Relevant experience and understanding of statutory assessment and EHCPs is advantageous.
Ideal Candidate
- Experienced in multi‑agency working and confident in advising, supporting and making sound judgments on strategies.
- Highly organised with effective interpersonal and communication skills, building and maintaining relationships with schools and partners.
- Ability to use specialist technology associated with educational audiology for Deaf students and work closely with the team to ensure equipment is used effectively.
- Will be expected to travel across Staffordshire; must be able to drive and have a car. Reasonable adjustments for disabled applicants.
- Qualification in British Sign Language, or commitment to self‑fund and obtain BSL Level 2 (Signature Accredited).
We may also consider an outstanding teacher with recent classroom teaching experience and willing to commit to the 2‑year mandatory qualification – Qualified Teacher of the Deaf (QTOD).
