Paying £28,000 – £32,000 per year (hourly paid).

The Job Role Details:

This role sits within the fruit growing team and supports the delivery of optimal irrigation and crop performance across soft fruit production areas.

As Soft Fruit Irrigation and Growing Assistant you will work closely with the Soft Fruit Growing Manager and wider operational teams to ensure irrigation systems are monitored, maintained, and performing effectively to support yield, quality, and timing targets.

The role is central to ensuring crops receive the correct irrigation regimes, nutrient feeds, and environmental balance required to produce consistent, high-quality fruit.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor irrigation across all designated crop fields on a daily basis.
  • Maintain accurate irrigation and crop input records.
  • Mix, manage, and monitor irrigation feed recipes and regimes.
  • Measure and assess moisture levels, runoff, pH, and EC levels.
  • Ensure irrigation is delivered effectively to maximise Class 1 fruit yield and quality.
  • Report maintenance issues promptly to the Maintenance Manager.
  • Support irrigation maintenance, repairs, and improvement projects.
  • Assist in implementing irrigation strategies and system improvements.
  • Ensure efficient and cost-effective use of irrigation resources.
  • Communicate crop and irrigation issues clearly to the growing team.
  • Maintain compliance with Health & Safety regulations and company procedures.
  • Ensure correct PPE is worn at all times and training remains up to date.
  • Follow GDPR and data handling requirements as a designated data processor.

Ideal Person Skills & Qualifications:

  • NVQ Level 2 in Horticulture, Agriculture, or equivalent qualification.
  • Practical experience in soft fruit production or controlled growing environments.
  • Understanding of irrigation systems, fertigation, and crop nutrition (desirable).
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varied weather conditions.
  • Strong communication skills for reporting and team coordination.
