Casual Family Support Worker (Visits Centre Assistant) – HMP Nottingham
Join us as a Casual Family Support Worker at HMP Nottingham, where you will play an important role in supporting families visiting their loved ones in prison.
Key Responsibilities
- Help create a welcoming and supportive environment for adults and children in the visitor centre.
- Offer information and guidance to visitors and organise activities for children.
- Ensure refreshments are available and the visit is as positive and stress‑free as possible.
- Support families during challenging times, handling situations calmly and sensitively using experience of working with people facing difficulties.
- Work closely with colleagues and partner agencies, ensuring safeguarding and child protection procedures are followed at all times.
- Provide input to continue improving family support services.
Qualifications and Experience
- Prior experience working with adults and children who face difficulties or have complex needs.
- Ability to remain calm and sensitive to families in a stressful environment.
- Knowledge of and experience with safeguarding and child protection procedures.
- Must satisfy the following pre‑employment checks: 6‑month probation, verification of identity, right to work in the UK, satisfactory references covering a 3‑year period, declaration of any unspent criminal convictions, Prison Vetting, Disclosure and Barring Service check, and, where applicable, assessment of bankruptcy or County Court Judgements.

Hours and Salary
Salary: £12.71 per hour.
Hours: Shifts include weekday and weekend working, as and when required.
