SEN Teaching Assistant – Graduates and previous Care workers
Location: Newport (NP20)
Contract: Full-time
We are recruiting a full-time Teaching Assistant for a specialist school in Newport, supporting pupils with additional learning needs, including autism, social, emotional and behavioural needs and complex learning difficulties.
Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with additional needs
- Assist teachers with lesson delivery and classroom management
- Support behaviour using clear and consistent strategies
- Help pupils develop communication, social, and life skills
- Create a safe, structured, and positive learning environment
- Support with personal care where required
- Monitor progress and report back to teaching staff
- Follow safeguarding procedures at all times
Qualifications
- Graduates (Psychology, Education, Health & Social Care, or related fields)
- Individuals with experience in care (residential care, support work, mental health, youth work)
- Candidates looking to move into education or build experience in SEN
- Experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable adults
- Strong communication skills and a team-focused approach
- Calm, resilient, and adaptable under pressure
- A genuine interest in supporting individuals with additional needs
- Willingness to obtain a DBS and register with the EWC (support provided)
- Valuable experience for those pursuing teaching or psychology careers
- Ongoing support from a dedicated consultant
- Access to training and professional development
