Want to make a difference to young people’s futures?

Believe that teaching literacy can be engaging and exciting?

Keen to join a team that consistently achieves beyond national standards?

Our Foundation English team is dedicated to an experience of post‑16 English that prioritises difference, engagement, and confidence: a different experience to school, encouraging new and exciting approaches. We believe the teaching of English should be inherently engaging, so every lesson we teach aims to showcase the joy of the subject. We work hard to help our learners build confidence in a subject many have found challenging in the past – are you ready for the challenge?

What you’ll be doing

  • Delivering high quality GCSE and Functional Skills English teaching to post‑16 learners
  • Managing effective and inspiring learning in the classroom
  • Contributing to areas of our curriculum development and teaching approach
  • Working collaboratively within a support and forward‑thinking team

What we’re looking for

  • An untiring drive to support learners in developing their literacy
  • A passion for engaging and motivating learners who may have previously found English a struggle
  • A strong communicator who relates effectively to young people
  • Applications from experienced teachers, as well as those newer to the profession, are welcome; we will be seeking to appoint a teacher with the greatest ability, enthusiasm, and commitment to our ethos in the team

What we offer

  • Smaller class sizes than those in schools, allowing for a more personalised learning experience
  • You’ll join an experienced, energetic and collaborative team of specialists who are dedicated to transforming the experience of our learners in the English classroom
  • You’ll be supported to contribute fully to our continuing excellence
  • A chance to work in an Outstanding Ofsted‑rated college (2022)
  • Great benefits, including discounted shopping, bikes, electric cars and watersports

Everyone’s welcome to apply for a role here, regardless of personal characteristics, including race, age, gender, religion, ability, disability, or sexuality.

We’re totally committed to the safeguarding and welfare of all our students, and we expect you to be too. We follow safer recruitment statutory guidance (Keeping Children Safe in Education). If you’re successful, you’ll be required to complete thorough pre‑employment checks, including an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references. All posts at Exeter College are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974. The amendments to the ROA 1974 (Exceptions Order 1975, (amended 2013 and 2020)) mean that when applying for certain jobs and activities, certain spent convictions and cautions are ‘protected’, so they do not need to be disclosed to employers, and if they are disclosed, employers cannot take them into account. The MOJ’s guidance on the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the Exceptions Order 1975, provides information about which convictions must be declared during job applications, related exceptions and further information.
