Senior Healthcare Assistant
Department: Surgical SDEC
Band 2/3: £25,272 – £27,476 per annum
Hours: 37.5 per week. All MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working.
If you do not have an NHS care certificate you would start at band 2 and be supported within the first 6 months to achieve this. At that time you will move to band 3.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients with personal care duties such as bathing, toileting, dressing and feeding. Ensure privacy and dignity is maintained.
- Assess patient condition and wellbeing through clinical observations and test results, looking for signs of agitation or distress, and report any concerns with patient condition to a senior member of staff in accordance with the department’s escalation process.
- Act at all times in a professional and courteous manner.
- Ensure compliance with mandatory training.
Qualifications
- Compassionate and proactive, with experience providing high standard personal care and supporting patients with dignity and respect.
- Ability to undertake and record clinical observations and recognise when to elevate concerns.
- Confidence supporting surgical patients, including wound care, mobility, hydration and comfort.
- Understanding of infection prevention and control principles.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary surgical team.
- Organisational skills to support patient flow in a fast paced ambulatory care setting.
