Catering Assistant

Job overview

To work as part of a team to provide a service of food to Bridgnorth Community Hospital.

Working in accordance with work schedule as required

To produce a high level of quality in the preparation of meals

Main duties of the job

  • Ensuring a good standard of quality control during preparations, cooking and despatch of food. This will include documentation of the process in accordance with a safe food system.
  • Serving meals and taking of cash for dining room till whenever necessary.
  • Responsible for practising good hygiene in regard to all aspects of the working of a catering department and including the maintenance of a good standard of personal hygiene.
  • Assisting with the washing/drying up at lunch time.
  • Ensuring that all freezers/fridges are cleaned and defrosted regularly.
  • To complete food orders when required.
  • Assisting with ward stores order.
  • To be responsible for the induction and training of new catering staff and that all training is documented.
  • Responsible for taking receipt of goods and putting away in the appropriate area’s.
  • Accepting and checking delivery of goods as necessary.
  • The handling of money and filling in the appropriate form.
  • To attend training courses and meetings when required.

Trainning and Qualifications

  • City and Guilds 706 1 and 2 or equivalent substantial experience.
  • Literacy and numeracy standard to level 1 or equivalent.

Experience

  • Substantial experience of cooking in a commercial setting, to include the following: planning meals and menus, including catering for special diets and allergies, preparing food using commercial kitchen equipment, storing food correctly, supervisory skills.

Knowlegde and Skills

  • General awareness of safety in the workplace, be able to follow instruction and prioritise workload.
  • Good communicational skills.
  • Ability to lead and motivate staff.
  • Good Organisational skills.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020, and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
