Learning Support Assistant (SEND – Autism & Speech and Language)

About the Role

Axcis Education are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join a SEND school team in Plymouth, supporting pupils with autism and speech, language and communication needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with autism and speech and language needs
• Support pupils with communication, social interaction and emotional regulation
• Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies
• Use visual supports and structured approaches to support learning and engagement
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff and therapists
• Promote independence, confidence and positive relationships

Essential Requirements

• Experience supporting children or young people with autism (in a school, care or similar setting)
• A clear understanding of autism and associated communication needs
• A patient, empathetic and consistent approach
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education

Desirable Skills & Experience

• Experience using Makaton and/or PECS
• Knowledge of speech and language support strategies
• Previous experience in a SEND or specialist school setting

Location: SEND School, Plymouth

Contract: Full‑time

Start Date: February 2026

Pay: £90–£95 per day (dependent on experience)
