We’re recruiting a Volunteer Coordinator for our Rehoming & Fostering Team in Suffolk! As Volunteer Coordinator, you’ll recruit, support, and inspire volunteers to enhance rehoming and fostering services, while promoting Blue Cross in the community and driving local volunteering initiatives. You’ll be joining a team that strives to be the best versions of themselves, so they can do the best for the pets who need our help.

Contract: Permanent, 18.75 hours per week. Salary: £12,488 – £13,821 (£24,976 – 27,643 FTE). Location: Suffolk, IP2 8NQ. Closing date: Wednesday 27th May 2026. Interview date: Thursday 4th June 2026.

More about the role: The Volunteer Coordinator will recruit and support volunteers across practical and administrative roles, promote the benefits of volunteering, and raise awareness of the centre and Blue Cross. Working closely with the Centre Manager and Assistant Managers, you will ensure volunteers are fully integrated, and the team welcomes and collaborates with them. Volunteers make a tremendous difference, and we appreciate their contribution. The role involves building relationships with local communities and partners, promoting volunteering to provide targeted support. Working 2.5 days a week across a 2-week rota, with occasional bank holiday and weekend work.

About You

You will be an excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to actively promote to a range of external stakeholders the work of Blue Cross and the benefits of volunteering. You will be a self‑motivated individual with a focused, creative, and forward‑thinking approach to volunteering. You will work collaboratively and effectively with people at all levels, ensuring volunteers have the right opportunities to thrive. You will be organised, flexible, analytical, and enjoy working to targets and managing a diverse volunteer team. You will offer guidance and advice, have confidence in dealing with volunteer situations, and provide pragmatic solutions. You will be resilient, emotionally intelligent, empathetic, and capable of supporting volunteers and colleagues in an emotionally charged environment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Demonstrable experience of supervising or managing volunteers.
  • Good experience running and marketing recruitment campaigns for volunteer roles.
  • Experience working with local communities and promoting volunteer opportunities.
  • Building relationships with a range of external stakeholders.
  • Actively managing a bank of clients or volunteers.
  • High standards of verbal and written communication.
  • Experience in a client‑focused environment with a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Strong organisational, administrative and analytical skills, including use of computerised systems.
  • Good interviewing and recruitment skills.
  • Awareness of health and safety legislation.
  • Current full driving licence.
  • Ability to demonstrate, understand and apply Blue Cross values.

It would also be great (but not essential) if you had:

  • Training or coaching skills.
  • Presentation skills.
  • Experience working with animals and knowledge of animal welfare.
  • Experience organising events.
  • Understanding of safeguarding issues.
