Youth Worker for Cardiff & Vale UHB Youth Board

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Cardiff and Vale University Health Board for a Youth Worker to join the Children, Young People and Family Health Services directorate. To support and develop our celebrated and innovative Youth Board and to contribute to our aim of embedding a Children’s Rights approach across the health board.
The post holder will arrange, chair and support youth board meetings. Advocate for the youth board, facilitating their needs, opinions and requests for speakers and opportunities. Work with the volunteer department to recruit new members and help ensure young people have a voice within the UHB recruitment processes.
The successful candidate will have experience of working with children and young people, hold a recognised Youth and Community Work qualification and be dedicated to upholding the UNCRC (United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child). Equality and inclusion are key in this role, providing a meaningful platform for children and young people to have their voices heard is paramount. Personal integrity, compassion, empathy, and sensitivity is essential to fulfil the requirements of this post.
The post is part funded by Cardiff and Vale University Health Board and part Noah’s Ark Charity. The post will sit with the Health Board and be managed by the Children, Young People and Family Health Services directorate.
This post is fixed term/secondment for 3 years due to – meet the needs of the service
Main duties of the job
- To support the youth board to work with the population we serve, to gain valuable feedback about the services we provide.
- Working with the UHB Volunteering Team, ensure the Youth Board has access to required training, undertaking risk assessments and seeking senior support where necessary.
- Co‑ordinate a programme of agenda items and co‑coordinate input from other disciplines, to ensure the Youth Board cycle of meetings are delivered.
- Work in partnership with Noah’s Ark Charity and UHB Volunteering, signposting young people to relevant services, e.g. in the third sector, within own scope of competence and in accordance with SOPs.
- Establish effective communication, both verbal and written with all members of the Youth Board where CYP may be receiving care.
- Ensure that up to date activity data is maintained and reported in accordance with the service level agreement and UHB standards.
- Communicate with young people face to face, in group activities, by email, text and phone as suits the required need. This includes listening to and responding empathetically to sensitive issues raised by young people, signposting and/or escalating as necessary.
- Link with other Youth Board Forums, both in the NHS and across agencies, attending meetings and acting as a resource to other NHS institutions that are developing similar services.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Job responsibilities
- To provide youth support services to members of Cardiff and Vale UHB Youth Board co‑ordinating meeting agendas and contributing to meetings ensuring the Youth Board are able to make a positive contribution to Health Board business and that appropriate development opportunities are offered in return for CYPs contribution to the UHB.
- To effectively deliver youth support to members of the Youth Board and be a point of contact.
- To support the Youth Board to progress initiatives which they consider important working with key members of Directorate Teams and in collaboration with Noahs Ark charity.
- Working alongside key members of Directorates across the UHB, to support the Youth Board to contribute to UHB Policy and Service Development providing a children and young peoples lens and ensuring lived experiences are captured.
- To enable social and emotional development throughout the adolescent trajectory.
- To bring youth and community perspectives to UHB planning, service development and service delivery.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Knowledge
- Graduate Degree qualification or NVQ level 4 plus knowledge and experience to degree level
- Qualification in Psychology, Youth Studies, Counselling or a Social Science
- Youth work practice qualification
- Counselling Skills
Experience
- Significant experience working with young people
- Working with young people within the NHS
- Experiencing of administering projects
