Job Details
- Salary: £8.00 per hour for the first 12 months, followed by the National Minimum Wage for apprentices.
- Apprenticeship Qualification: Teaching Assistant Level 3 apprenticeship standard – 15 months practical training plus up to 8 weeks for end‑point assessment.
- Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 4:00 pm (terms, 39 weeks): 35 hours per week.
What You’ll Do
- Assist the teacher with learning activities and prepare or modify work for individual or group pupils as directed.
- Undertake supervision and discipline of children, following school procedures and reporting any difficulties.
- Promote children’s independence in learning, social and mobility skills, reinforcing self‑esteem through praise and encouragement.
- Prepare and maintain equipment and teaching resources, ensuring safe use by children.
- Prepare and/or clear the classroom as directed.
- Provide support to the Class Teacher (photocopying, filing, recording).
- Adhere to child‑protection, health & safety, security, confidentiality and data‑protection policies, reporting concerns to the appropriate person.
- Support the overall ethos and aim of the school.
- Assist with group activities inside and outside school, such as PE and educational visits.
- Assist with programmes designed by other professionals (educational psychologists, speech and language therapists).
- Assist the Class Teacher in liaising with other professional staff and reporting information to parents/carers; contribute to meetings about a specific child’s progress.
- Attend professional development activities as required.
- Perform any other duties within the salary grade.
Qualifications and Skills
- Good standard of written and spoken English and numeracy skills.
- Ability to work constructively as part of a team and relate well to children and adults.
- Basic ICT skills.
- Motivated and committed to supporting children.
- Ability to self‑evaluate learning needs.
- Understanding of the importance of confidentiality.
- Flexible approach and willingness to offer help.
- Interest in working within a primary school.
- Capable of working with children of various abilities and backgrounds.
