Help shape the future of agile delivery at Cambridge University Press and Assessment

We’re looking for an Agile Delivery Coach to play a central role in strengthening how our technology teams collaborate, deliver value, and continuously improve across our English business. This is a hands‑on leadership position that combines direct line management, strategic thinking with practical coaching—helping teams adopt effective delivery practices, improve alignment, and work with clarity, accountability, and purpose.

As our organisation evolves, we focus on ways of working that retain the best of team empowerment while ensuring greater consistency, transparency, and operational discipline. You will help teams navigate this shift, embedding approaches that enhance predictability and flow while still encouraging innovation and learning.

This role offers the opportunity to drive meaningful, positive change in a global organisation dedicated to learning, excellence, and societal impact.

We are Cambridge University Press & Assessment — a world‑leading academic publisher and assessment organisation, and a proud part of the University of Cambridge.

About The Role

You will help embed Agile ways of working that support both adaptability and reliable delivery. Working with teams across the UK, Spain, Manila and with global vendors, you will ensure our delivery practices are effective, collaborative, and aligned with organisational priorities. As part of a team of leaders focused on delivery, you will:

  • Line‑manage, coach and mentor Scrum Masters and delivery teams, helping them improve their delivery flow and Agile mindset.
  • Work closely with Product Owners to strengthen prioritisation and stakeholder collaboration.
  • Drive continuous improvement and encourage experimentation rooted in evidence and feedback.
  • Help standardise and improve metrics and reporting so that teams have clear insight into outcomes and delivery performance.
  • Support the evolution of Agile tools, frameworks and ways of working.
  • Help teams work effectively within organisational governance expectations, planning cycles, and delivery processes.
  • Promote transparency, accountability, and clarity of roles and ownership.
  • Communicate progress and influence alignment at all levels, ensuring shared understanding of objectives and priorities.
  • Act as a role model for collaborative, outcome‑focused delivery.
  • Where appropriate, act as a Scrum Master on specific initiatives.

This position has been classified as a hybrid role, requiring the selected candidate to typically spend 40‑60% of their time collaborating and connecting face‑to‑face at their dedicated location. Flexible working requests, including arrangements for disability or long‑term health conditions, will be considered from day one.

About You

We’re seeking an experienced Agile practitioner with the confidence, judgement, and communication skills to support teams and leaders through meaningful change. You will bring:

  • Proven experience in direct line management, with a strong track record of coaching teams and leading the adoption of Agile practices within a global organisation.
  • Strong practical knowledge of frameworks such as Scrum or Kanban.
  • A track record of helping teams improve delivery performance and collaboration.
  • Experience implementing Agile practices in environments that include annual planning cycles, cross‑team dependencies, and centralised governance.
  • Ability to help teams work productively within agreed frameworks while still improving how they deliver.
  • Ability to bridge technology and business priorities.
  • Familiarity with Agile tooling (Jira, Confluence) and delivery metrics.
  • Understanding of the impact of AI/GenAI on modern teams and delivery rhythms.
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills.
  • Ability to influence without authority and create alignment across varied stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting distributed teams across locations and cultures.
  • Curious, collaborative, resilient, and committed to continuous improvement.
  • Able to balance flexibility with structure, and speed with accountability.
