Job Description:

Teaching Assistant – Grade 3

Location: Bournmoor Primary School, Lambourne Close, Bournmoor, Houghton le Spring, DH4 6HF. Salary: £25,185 to £25,989 (pro rata). Contract: Temporary, part time, term time only plus 2 weeks. Working 5 mornings a week (16 hours) from 20 April 2026 to 31 March 2027.

Key Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Support across the EYFS setting, according to needs, with a focus on extending provision to 2‑year‑olds.
  • Nurture, inspire and motivate Foundation Stage pupils.
  • Provide high‑quality support to the EYFS team in the 2‑Year‑Old provision.
  • Maintain daily routines in a safe, stimulating, and creative setting, helping to provide rich experiences that enable children to become effective learners.
  • Use good numeracy, literacy, IT and communication skills as required.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements in the Early Years Foundation Stage.
  • Deliver work to the highest possible standards of pupil achievement, well‑being and personal development.
  • Promote the school’s inclusive values and ethos.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience working in an EYFS team, including 2‑year‑old provision.
  • Willingness to undertake a Paediatric First Aid certificate.
  • Knowledge, understanding and skills to support the EYFS team and be proactive in the 2‑Year‑Old provision.
  • Good numeracy, literacy, IT and communication skills.
  • Good working knowledge of statutory requirements in the Early Years Foundation Stage.
  • Qualification that meets the approved “full and relevant” criteria for Early Years qualifications, meeting inclusion in staffing ratios.

Additional Information

The successful candidate will be required to meet the person specification and will be subject to an enhanced DBS check. The role provides additional weeks’ pay calculated on:

  • 38 teaching weeks
  • Public (bank) holidays – 1.6 weeks (8 days)
  • Two additional weeks, inclusive of CPD – 2 weeks
  • Individual leave entitlement – 5.4 weeks (27 days) or 6.4 weeks (32 days) based on years’ service.

Calculations:

  • Employees with less than 5 years’ service: 40 weeks (term time + 2) + 27 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 47 weeks’ pay, to be paid in 12 equal monthly instalments.
  • Employees with more than 5 years’ service: 40 weeks (term time + 2) + 32 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 48 weeks’ pay, to be paid in 12 equal monthly instalments.
