Overview

Caudwell Marine is a start-up engineering company, financially backed by John Caudwell, developing an innovative, patented outboard motor and Vessel Control System for launch in 2026.

The Caudwell Marine organisation is a small but growing, experienced team of people who are passionate about successfully bringing this technologically leading outboard motor to market. Each team member has a ‘hands on’ approach and supports each other for the benefit of the programme.

The Engine Test Tehncician will work with external suppliers and internal teams to define all the test requirements of the production engine. You will act as primary contact point for all engine test cell activities across Caudwell Marine to ensure the development, knowledge, and commission of our initial and ongoing products.

You will support the Manufacturing Operations and Engineering Design in identifying and advising on testing solutions to meet test cell cycle requirement, quality targets and our customer needs.

Once appointed you will report to the Head of Manufacturing.

Main Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the production engine test cell, ensuring smooth, efficient, and safe testing activity.
  • Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety and quality procedures, including risk assessments and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Validate engine performance, fluid conditioning, and cell systems within the test cell environment.
  • Execute automated and manual engine test cycles, supporting increasingly complex test requirements alongside Engineering teams.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults, working with Engineering to deliver fast, effective resolutions.
  • Take full ownership of test pieces, equipment, and hardware, ensuring consistent performance and availability.
  • Analyse test data, validate results, and influence design decisions through robust feedback and reporting.
  • Lead initiatives to improve manufacturing Right First Time (RFT) and First Time Through (FFT) metrics through in-process testing.
  • Support external testing partners, contributing to root cause investigations and continuous improvement of testing methods.
  • Monitor key test performance indicators (KPIs), maintain calibration standards, and identify opportunities for process and measurement system optimisation.

Previous Experience

  • Experience of operating a CADET software platform
  • Previous experience of managing an engine test cell and production in process test equipment
  • Excellent understanding of engine fundamentals and related systems
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and instruction following completion of probationary period
  • Willingness to take responsibility for own work and offer support to others
  • Excellent teamwork ethics
  • Respect for Health and Safety procedures and practices
  • Organised with good communication skills

Qualifications

  • Mechanical, Mechatronics or Electronics Engineering Degree or HND preferred
  • Evidence of other formal qualifications & training to demonstrate high technical competence in mechanical and electronic engineering and maintenance

Other

  • Location: Coventry
  • Working pattern: Monday – Friday 8am to 4pm
  • Flexibility required to support operations both on site and in Lowestoft at our Test Facility (as required)
  • Clean Driving Licence and own transport required
