This supply opportunity offers the chance to work within a supportive Bristol school, delivering Product Design across Key Stages 3 and 4, with potential Key Stage 5 teaching depending on experience. You will help maintain consistency in the classroom and workshop, support pupil progress, and encourage learners to think creatively, work independently, and apply technical knowledge in practical contexts.

Role Overview

We are looking to appoint a supply Product Design Teacher to support a secondary school in Bristol. The successful candidate will deliver high‑quality practical and theory‑based lessons, create a purposeful and inclusive learning environment, and ensure pupils remain engaged, challenged, and supported throughout their learning.

This role would suit a flexible and committed teacher with strong subject knowledge in Product Design or Design Technology, effective classroom and workshop management, and a passion for helping young people develop practical skills, creativity, and technical understanding.

Core Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging Product Design lessons across KS3 and KS4, with potential KS5 teaching depending on experience
  • Plan and adapt practical and theory‑based learning to meet a range of abilities, learning needs, and school expectations
  • Support pupils in developing creativity, design thinking, technical knowledge, and problem‑solving skills
  • Maintain a safe, well‑organised classroom and workshop environment, following all relevant health and safety procedures
  • Assess, monitor, and record pupil progress in line with school policy and curriculum objectives
  • Differentiate effectively to support all learners, including pupils with SEND, EAL, or varying levels of confidence
  • Work collaboratively with department staff and school leaders to ensure continuity in pupils’ learning
  • Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and follow all school‑wide policies and procedures at all times

Required Skills & Behaviours

  • Strong subject knowledge in Product Design or Design Technology and the ability to deliver lessons clearly and confidently
  • Effective classroom and workshop management skills that support a calm, safe, and purposeful learning environment
  • Ability to engage and motivate pupils with varied learning needs and levels of attainment
  • Organised, dependable, and adaptable approach to supply teaching within a busy secondary school
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, pupils, and parents where required
  • Commitment to high standards of teaching, professionalism, and safeguarding

Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential
  • Previous experience teaching Product Design or Design Technology in a UK secondary school setting is highly desirable
  • Confidence teaching across KS3 and KS4; KS5 experience is advantageous but not essential
  • Good understanding of the UK secondary curriculum and current assessment expectations
  • Knowledge of workshop health and safety procedures within a Design Technology setting
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to obtain one
  • Right to work in the UK and willingness to complete all required safeguarding and compliance checks
