The Endoscopy department at HUTH provides both elective and acute services from Hull Royal Infirmary (3 rooms) and Castle Hill Hospital (recently opened state‑of‑the‑art Allam building, 5 rooms). This high‑volume environment offers a wide range of diagnostic and complex therapeutic procedures to its population, including gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy, ERCP, EUS, EBUS, bronchoscopy and capsule endoscopy.

HUTH Endoscopy provides exposure to the full spectrum of GI pathology, attracting referrals from colorectal, upper GI surgery and gastroenterology. The centre is the hub of the regional bowel screening programme and hosts the East Yorkshire School of Endoscopy, which offers regular JAG‑accredited diagnostic and therapeutic courses.

The department is clinically led by Dr Othman Saraj, Consultant Gastroenterologist, and endoscopy services are delivered by 42 GI endoscopists, including 7 clinical nurse endoscopists.

Role Overview

  • Consolidate core diagnostic endoscopy skills through regular participation in service GI endoscopy lists.
  • Undertake high‑level training in an advanced endoscopic subspecialty tailored to your development needs, such as complex polypectomy (EMR), ablation techniques or other gastroenterology‑related fields.
  • Optional opportunities to develop teaching skills through selective involvement in endoscopy training activities, including basic and therapeutic skills courses delivered by EYSE.
  • Engage in quality improvement and research projects relevant to endoscopy service development and innovation.
