Role Purpose

Learning and developing knowledge and experience in Project Controls. Supporting the Project Control teams with all project control activities.

Key Accountabilities

  • Estimating: Exposure to different types of estimating, different approaches to estimating and when to apply different types of estimating. Supporting Project Controllers in estimating related responsibilities.
  • Planning & Scheduling: Exposure to project planning and scheduling, including resourcing and baselining. Working closely with a Project Controller to understand how to create a plan and schedule, interrogate schedules to identify potential risks and issues and emerging trends that may need addressing.
  • Cost planning and control: Exposure to managing actual and forecast costs against budget including updating plans in line with change control which will include evaluating cost variance, highlighting areas of underperformance and making informed decisions to suggest recovery actions to ensure project performance stays on track.
  • Analysis and reporting: Exposure to analysing and reporting data to develop a complete and accurate picture that will inform decisions regarding the management, quality and control of projects. Providing clear information and certainty regarding schedule, cost and risk position.
  • Performance management: Exposure to governance requirements and processes which are documented in our Business Management System and Project Management Knowledge Network. Exposure to data structures, review cycles and review packs which help to enable effective decision making.
  • Risk Management: Exposure to risk management. Supporting Project Controllers in risk management related responsibilities.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Learning and developing knowledge and experience in fostering a collaboration approach with all stakeholders to ensure project performance stays on track and why it is important.
  • Supports Project Controllers in all elements of project controls of non-complex and possible limited complexity projects – LCM 1.
  • Commits to undertaking Project Controls apprenticeship. Embracing the 20% of the job time to study and keep abreast of apprenticeship, in line with learning provider expectations.

Experience and Qualifications

  • QinetiQ values and behaviours outlined in the Code of Conduct must be acted upon at all times. Acting in a professional manner with our internal and external stakeholders.   • 5 x GCSE A*-C, 4-9. Must include Mathematics, English and any other STEM subject (UK only)
  • Has typically 0 years’ experience of working within project controls
  • Be willing to learn, be flexible and adaptable and have demonstrated an aptitude for learning at pace.
  • Has a keen eye for detail.
  • Has excellent interpersonal skills, both written & verbal.
