SEN Teaching Assistant

Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Rochdale, Greater Manchester

Start Date: April 2026

Contract Type: Full-time, Term-time only

Salary: £105-£120 per day

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm

About the school

We’re proud to be working with a friendly and inclusive SEN secondary school in Rochdale, dedicated to supporting young people aged 11‑19 with a variety of additional needs, including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges. The school provides a caring, structured, and positive learning environment where every student is encouraged to thrive and reach their full potential.

This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated Teaching Assistant who is passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people with special educational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver individualised 1:1 and small‑group support for students with additional needs, including SEMH.
  • Assist in the delivery of engaging, differentiated lessons alongside the class teacher.
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional well‑being through encouragement and consistent support strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, and families to ensure continuity in support and progress tracking.
  • Encourage students to develop confidence, independence, and resilience in their learning.

Ideal candidate

  • Have previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN and/or SEMH needs (in school, care, or youth settings).
  • Bring a calm, patient, and proactive approach to supporting behaviour and learning.
  • Be an excellent communicator and team player, able to build strong relationships with pupils and staff.
  • Have a sound understanding of SEN and SEMH support strategies, adapting to individual needs as required.
  • Hold relevant qualifications in education, support, or care (desirable but not essential).

Eligibility

  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply).
  • Two professional references (preferably from child‑related roles).
