Job Description:

Shift Leader rate of pay starts from £15.59 an hour; this increases to £16.86 for stores inside the M25. Additional payments may also apply depending on location.

We offer a minimum of 16 guaranteed hours each week, with the option to work as few as 12 hours.

Availability Window

Sunday to Saturday, 05:30 – 22:00. We will schedule your contracted hours within these windows and give you at least three weeks’ notice.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a fast‑paced retail environment.
  • Take ownership of running duty shifts, coordinating the team to ensure a clean, well‑stocked store that exceeds customer expectations.
  • Listen to customers and help them leave the store with what they came for.
  • Coach and give feedback to improve service.
  • Guide and support colleagues in-store, ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of store performance and assist managers in improving store operations.
  • Lead from the front and set a great example for your colleagues.
  • Coordinate the store team to provide a fuss‑free shopping experience.
  • Support colleagues in delivering daily priorities and taking regular breaks.
  • Open and close the store, completing duty cover and making correct safety decisions.
  • Act as the go‑to person for queries in the absence of a manager.
  • Maintain the store’s cleanliness, tidiness and proper presentation.
  • Coordinate seasonal, community and charity events.
  • Build an inclusive team atmosphere.
  • Provide excellent customer service by listening and prioritising customers.
  • Keep the team informed of communications, changes and updates.
  • Continuously search for ways to improve and simplify operations.
  • Coordinate store improvements and remove obstacles to service.
  • Follow and enforce health and safety routines.
  • Recognise and celebrate outstanding service from colleagues.
  • Act as a role model by delivering thoughtful service.
  • Build long‑lasting relationships with colleagues and create a positive atmosphere.
  • Communicate clearly using various methods to keep the team updated.
  • Lead and oversee the store in the absence of a manager.
  • Make decisions with flexibility, handling change to serve customers and colleagues.
  • Motivate and inspire the team to exceed expectations.
  • Always seek new ideas and opportunities to better serve customers, communities and the planet.

Applicants must be 18 or older to apply for this role. The role may involve shifts before 6:15 am or after 9:45 pm, or work in areas such as the warehouse, beer/wine counter, bakery, or driving roles, and therefore we only recruit individuals who have passed the school leaver’s age and are over 18.
