Role Description

Arcadis is looking for a new Assistant Driller / Site Labourer to be based from our Gloucester facility. The position involves working throughout the UK across a variety of sites and sectors including manufacturing, petrochemical, and construction environments. No previous experience in land drilling is necessary as this is an entry-level role with great scope for promotion through to lead driller in the future. This role requires someone who enjoys working outside in a wide variety of site environments. The role will require you to travel to sites across the UK during the working week and stay local to the drilling site Monday‑Friday. PPE and single accommodation/travel expenses will be provided. Daily commuting to the depot will also be required; therefore, the successful candidate must reside within a reasonable commute from Gloucester.

Role accountabilities

  • Operate in a two‑person team supporting the Lead Driller to complete drilling projects across the UK and occasionally in Europe.
  • Drive to the drilling site, set up and advance boreholes using a range of drilling equipment, collect ground samples, install & monitor equipment, make the drilling site work areas safe, follow H&S procedures, and perform ad‑hoc duties.
  • Receive training from day one to become a competent Assistant Driller and will be enrolled in/on an NVQ after completion of the probationary period.

For those wishing to progress further, in‑house training, apprenticeships, and NVQs in Land Drilling are available to allow you to work towards becoming a qualified Lead Driller. Arcadis is also a proudly National Living Wage Employer.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Motivated person who enjoys hands‑on, outdoor jobs. A background in a labour‑intensive role such as ex‑military, construction, or agriculture would be advantageous.
  • Driving licence is essential.
  • Ability to stay away from home Monday‑Friday. Single occupancy accommodation, travel and food allowance will be provided.
  • Basic IT skills.
  • Benefits: CSCS, SPA/PIA, Personal Track Safety (PTS) are beneficial; if not held, required training will be provided.
