Job Title: Night Care Assistant

Contract Type: Permanent

Salary: £26,227.50 per annum plus 10% Night Allowance, Pro Rata

Working Hours: 30 hours per week

Working Pattern: Working 3 night shifts per week between Monday and Sunday 21:30-07:30

Location: Harbour Place, Workington

Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance to residents in need of physical personal care during the night, ensuring dignity and privacy.
  • Recognise distress and identify positive ways to reduce it.
  • Encourage independence in residents where possible.
  • Actively participate in specified care management programmes.
  • Assist with laundry and catering skills.
  • Enable customers to meet the aspirations within their individual support plans, keeping up‑to‑date information.
  • Help customers with daily activities, domestic support, and preparing meals, snacks and drinks to maintain independence.
  • Safely assist customers’ mobility, including use of assessed equipment and manual handling aids.
  • Support customers with administering medication.
  • Provide personal care and support in line with Care Quality Commission (CQC) definitions.
  • Inspire and motivate customers to develop life skills, independence and emotional well‑being, by:
    • Recognising and engaging customers in activities they are passionate about.
    • Working with customers to seek employment or volunteering opportunities.
    • Encouraging and enabling communication and interaction with others.
    • Supporting and monitoring emotional wellbeing and healthcare needs with appropriate professional contact.
  • Help customers manage personal affairs such as reading letters, managing utilities and handling small amounts of money.
  • Communicate clearly, building trusted relationships with customers and their wider support network.
  • Provide companionship, engaging in conversation to build genuine relationships.
  • Take pride and initiative in meeting customers’ needs, creating a safe, comfortable and respectful living environment.
  • Maintain detailed, accurate records of care and medication support.
  • Respond promptly to and report any concerns relating to care, support, well‑being or behaviour.
  • Recognise signs of abuse and immediately report to a manager, following safeguarding procedures.
  • Record complaints and proactively discuss the complaint procedure with customers.
  • Ensure the building is well maintained, safe and secure by carrying out basic health and safety checks, reporting repairs, maintaining cleanliness and dealing with incidents per local policy.
  • Work flexible hours to meet customer and business needs.
  • Ensure customers are safe at all times, carrying out duties within Riverside’s Policy and Procedure framework (health & safety, safeguarding, dignity at work, GDPR, cash handling, etc.).
  • Deliver the role in line with Riverside company values – “Our Riverside Way”.
  • Use the Lone Worker system as per policy when necessary.
  • Participate in team meetings, attend regular supervisions and reflective practice sessions.
  • Undertake regular training and take responsibility for continuous development.
  • From time to time undertake additional duties and responsibilities in consultation with line manager.

  • Essential Knowledge & Experience
    • Experience of working in a team and communicating positively with others.
    • Experience of organising tasks while supporting people and planning accordingly.
    • Be a team player with a caring, empathetic, flexible attitude and demonstrate a resilient, can‑do attitude.
    • Ability to use initiative and have confidence to make and act on decisions.
    • Basic administrative & IT skills.
  • Desirable
    • Awareness of CQC standards.
    • Experience providing direct care to a vulnerable and diverse group of customers.
