The General Intensive Care unit is looking for a motivated and positive person to join our existing fantastic Ward Clerk team. Our unit is a dynamic, highly innovative department which has some of the most advanced nursing and medical protocols, equipment and resources within the UK. We are an open and encouraging department that wants you to help us to continue to provide the very best possible care experience in a friendly, supportive manner that fosters team working and your ongoing development.

This role includes working shifts to cover the hours of 0700 – 2000 Monday to Friday with possible weekend working sometimes required. For more information regarding this role or to arrange an informal visit please call 01173427600.

The Ward Clerk team supports the unit and is integral to the smooth running and positive experiences of our staff, patients, and visitors. The main duties and responsibilities are discussed in the job description and person specification.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Experience

  • Previous reception or customer‑facing experience in a healthcare or public setting
  • Clerical/administration experience including filing and/or reception
  • Previous NHS experience

Skills and Abilities

  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines whilst maintaining a high standard of accuracy
  • Able to communicate clearly and act quickly in an emergency
  • Good IT skills including Microsoft packages
  • Tidy and methodical working practice
  • Ability to work effectively in a busy team, adjust to change and motivate others
  • Ability to work independently and as part of the team
  • Confidence to handle difficult conversations with patients, relatives and carers

Qualifications and Training

  • Educated to GCSE grade C or above in English Language and Maths
